This should be a wake up call for every Christian in North Carolina. We have become so inclusive in our churches, that we have opened the door for groups like the NC atheist association and their billboards "One Nation Indivisible".
I am ashamed of myself and other Chrisitians. We just left our own church after 12 years. They were busy reaching out of the country and not really taking care of the community. Oh, they had the list of money and activities given to the community and by their standards it was a great amount. Then we started visiting other churches and found the community outreach of our previous church was like spitting in the wind. It is the Pastor's spin on community involvement, which makes a real difference. We learned this from the first chuch we visited.
They were welcoming a local Hispanic church into their fold. The Hispanic church had no building, just the spirit of Jesus Christ's hope for their future. My husband and I looked at each other and both said, this would never happen at our old church. Easier to give a little money, feed a few families, but keep the stinch of real life outside the church doors. One more thing, this church was renting out all of the July fourth rides in the local park. Not just for their members but for any one who wanted to ride. And I did not see one "fund raiser" sign anywhere. Yes, we will go back for another visit! Even though, these churches appear to be few and far between, we are hoping to find more during our search.
I believe when Christians are so wrapped up in ourselves and not our community, we open the door for Athiests and Terrorists. And if you think the Athiests buying the bill boards in the "Bible Belt" of the South is a concern, think again. Seeds of Terrorism are also being planted. So, there is so much more at stake. Our future and our children's future is slowly disentigrating before our very eyes.
What can we do about it? Walk out the church doors and back into our communities. Tell your Pastor, Priest, Preacher or Spiritual Leader that you want to start as a pebble thrown into the middle of a pond. Working the ripples of your community and spreading throughout your state and then country. How dare we go to other countries and pour money into them and tell them what to do! When we can't even take care of our own back yard. It is arrogance and ego at work, slowly tearing us down.
Just a little fact and opinion for the Athiests. Did you know our Founding Fathers were 204 strong with 88 Episcopalian/Anglican, 30 Prebyterian, 27 Congregationalists, 7 Quakers, 6 Dutch Reformed/German Reformed, 5 Lutheran, 3 Catholics, 3 Hugenots, 3 Unitarians, 2 Methodists, and 1 Calvinist? The Constitution's date line states "In the year of our Lord". All 50 states acknowledge God in their state constitutions. Yes, our Founding Fathers did try to stay secular so that no one's rights would be violated. But everything that was written had the backing of strong faith beliefs. They opened each meeting with prayer for guidance and God's help in planning this new country.
Now on to the change in the Pledge of Alligence in 1954. It signalled a want from the American people to establish themselves as a kinder, freer nation. We wanted to differentiate ourselves from the Communists who were Athiests, because the world saw first hand their idea of freedom for a select race of people. We did not want to be associated with Communism's inhumane treatment of people, who did not fit into their ideal mold of a human being. And yet, you, Athiests would have us go back to being one of the global group. So, where would your freedoms be then? Suppressed, convicted and even killed for wanting nothing more than freedom?
Freedom to annoy us with your ideas and statements. Freedom for us to love and pray for your salvation. And yes, to annoy you with our beliefs. It is this same belief that will take down your bill boards, as Christian wake from their slumber again. I don't mean "take down" in the literal sense. I mean when Chrisitians come together as the community, the community becomes stronger and God's power will be seen again. Some of you will change and others will continue to fight a hopeless battle. In the end, God wins, we win and Satan knows it!
To the company who rented the bill boards to the Athiests. Examine your moral values and your loyalty to the community and country. Once again money, power reign supreme.
Christians, it is time to show the power of Christian businesses. Don't support these companies or any of the other companies who give them business. You have to take a stand to make real change happen. Can't wish it away or ignore it.
To the Athiests, I have one last statement. C.S. Lewis was an Athiest. He set out to prove that Christians believed in God to alleveate their fear of death. Instead C.S. Lewis became a Christian and even in death is one of the top Christian writers of all time. He was Oxford educated and a man respected for fairness and logic. You should read his works, before and after his conversion. My Christianity was weak until I started reading his works and biography. Amazing stuff, no one could ever imagine! If you read all of Lewis's writings and still walk away unaffected, I will say no more to you. I will always pray for you though!
